Standout Valentine and Easter breaks on the Portavadie menu

The spectacular Portavadie in southwest Cowal on the shores of Loch Fyne, opposite Tarbert in Kintyre and with a CalMac vehicle and passenger ferry running between them, has a Valentine break and a variety of Easter breaks at eye-widening prices and inclusive of so much we’ve had to read the press release twice to make sure we were seeing straight.

Portavadie is an imaginative concept – set in a remote rural and coastal area of stunning beauty between Loch Fyne and the Kyles of Bute and making its own internal scenery on top of that by putting together a luxury resort and a very well found and sheltered marina.

There’s water everywhere – within the complex and on its doorstep in all directions. There is first class walking and biking from it and wonderful drives to potter on in this less known area – Argyll’s Secret Coast.

Portavadie itself has a wide range of accommodation from a room and a locker, to cottages for families and groups, to family suites at the Lodge, luxury apartments – and luxury means your own sauna – and Tighnamara.  This is a secluded detached retreat for couples [and well behaved dogs are welcome] in its own grounds on the shores of Loch Fyne, wrap around views, equipped as fully as your own home and a five minute stroll from the heart of the marina.

You can eat at The Kitchen and Bar in the Lodge or at the two storey glass-fronted Marina restaurant and bar.

The entire complex is purpose built, designed by a single architect for whom it has been one of the most fun-to-do projects in his career. He has worked with clients whose emphasis throughout has been on producing a sanctuary where quality is the benchmark and the blend of comfort, pleasure and opportunities for activity is second to none – whether you sail in to it or meander gently down by road.

Portavadie is one of Argyll’s top flight experiences and these Valentine and Easter break offers make time out away at home also seem irresistible.

If the Scottish Government had put Scotland’s interests first, managing well the introduction of onshore fracking for shale gas in the Central Belt and dedicating every penny raised to strategic infrastructural development nationwide, an imaginative move would have been a bridge over the west Kyle from Bute to north of Blair’s Ferry, south of Kames and major road development between there and the Portavadie-Tarbert ferry.

This single construction would benefit the economies of Bute, south Cowal and Kintyre, making each easily accessible to the other and to visitors from the south from the Ayrshire coast at Wemyss Bay via the CalMac ferry to Rothesay.
